Get started

Your first OKR in five minutes.

Free and open source. Runs on your machine. No sign-up: it starts with just you.

  1. Check Node.js

    You need Node.js 22.13 or newer.

    $ node --version
    # v22.13.0 or higher

    Don’t have it? Get it from nodejs.org or run nvm install 22.

  2. Install OKR.ai

    $ npx okr-ai@latest

    It starts on localhost:3000.

  3. Add an AI key (optional)

    The first run makes a secret key for you in data/.secret-key. To give everyone one AI key, add it to a .env file next to data/, or paste a key later in the AI model panel:

    # One AI key for everyone
    OKRAI_AI_PROVIDER="anthropic" # or openai, deepseek, openrouter
    OKRAI_AI_KEY=""

    No AI key yet? Set OKRAI_MOCK_LLM=1 to try every flow.

  4. Say who you are

    Open localhost:3000 and enter your name and role. No email, no code: it’s just you, on this computer.

    Ready to work with others? Collaborate at the top right sets up sign-in, a shared database and the AI model, and gives you a join code for your team. See Bring in your team.

  5. Add your team

    Use the + under your node to add reports, or upload a whole org from Team import. When you turn on team sign-in, they sign in with those emails and land in their place.

  6. Draft your first OKR

    Click your node → My OKRs → Add OKR. Write the objective and AI drafts the key results.

    Done. Everything lives in ./data/okrai.db on your machine.
